The New Zealand team has reached Pakistan on Wednesday for the tri-series and Champions Trophy to be played there. The Kiwi team will start its practice at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium from tomorrow i.e. Thursday. But before this, a big update has come from Lahore. In fact, before the tri-series to be played between Pakistan, New Zealand and South Africa, army personnel and rangers will be deployed in Lahore from Wednesday to ensure the security of these teams.
Champions Trophy : Imran Khan’s people will protest
Jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party has planned a protest march on the same day. A ministry spokesperson said, ‘The Ministry of Home Affairs has allowed the deployment of Pakistan Army and Rangers to protect the cricket teams of New Zealand and South Africa for the tri-series in Lahore between February 5 and February 10.’ Imran Khan has been lodged in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since 2023 in several cases and a confrontation has been seen between the current government and Khan’s party since the general elections held in February 2024.
Black Day will be celebrated on 8 February
Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has already announced that it will celebrate 8 February as ‘Black Day’ and will hold a protest rally on this day at the historic Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore. General elections were held in Pakistan on 8 February last year and PTI has been alleging that there was tampering in the mandate received by their party in the elections. Apart from the Army and Rangers, police personnel of Pakistan’s Punjab province will also be deployed for the security of both the teams.
