During a press conference at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, India captain Rohit Sharma was asked to share his views on the BCCI guidelines. However, Rohit lost his temper at the reporter and asked him to wait for official confirmation from the BCCI. Rohit said, ‘Who told you about these rules? Has it come from the official handle? Let it come first and then we will talk.’ At the same time, Agarkar’s statement seemed different from this.

Agarkar spoke on the rules

Agarkar said, ‘I believe every team has its own rules. Over the last few months we have discussed areas where we can improve and strengthen relationships as a team. We have realized that some changes are needed to promote better team unity.’ Agarkar further clarified that the new rules are not a punishment and such guidelines have existed before. He stressed the importance of following these rules while representing his country.

Agarkar said, ‘It is not about treating the players like students or punishing them. There are just some rules and when you are playing for your national team, you follow them. These are mature professionals and superstars in their own right in international sports. They know how to manage themselves. You are representing your country, and there are some expectations that you should follow, as is the case with any team.’

There is a clear difference between the statements of Agarkar and Rohit. Not only this, if Rohit did not know the rules, then why was he seen telling Agarkar about the family rules at the beginning of the conference? One of the 10 orders of BCCI states that players will not be allowed to stay with their families for more than two weeks on tour. Regarding this rule, Rohit was seen telling Agarkar while the mic was on – ‘I will have to sit back with the secretary. Yeh sab cheez family ka, ab sab mujhe ko poochh rahe hain.’ Interestingly, Rohit stopped after saying this and started talking to the journalists.

What is the 10-point policy?

The BCCI has not officially announced the guidelines, but these 10-point guidelines have come out in media reports. According to this, the BCCI has also made it compulsory for all players to play domestic cricket and banned personal staff on foreign tours. Apart from this, players will not be able to shoot personal advertisements during the series. It will be mandatory to follow the 10-point policy. If this is not done, the BCCI will take action. From now on, players will not be allowed to travel separately during the tour and they will not be allowed to leave early if the match ends early.

This policy has been implemented to promote discipline and unity in the national cricket team. After the series loss against Australia and the whitewash at home against New Zealand, there were reports of factions being formed in the team and players not sitting together. In such a situation, BCCI considered it necessary to implement this policy so that the performance and commitment of the players could be improved.
