In a warm-up match played in Darwin, the Cricket Australia (CA) XI handed them a crushing defeat by an innings and 38 runs. Bangladesh’s second innings folded for just 54 runs, with left-arm fast bowler Campbell Thompson delivering a magnificent spell to claim 8 wickets for 25 runs.

Campbell Thompson : Bangladesh began their second innings on the third day with two wickets already down, but the team could not even last until lunch, losing the remaining eight wickets in the next 17 overs. Opener Tanzid Hasan, who scored 22, was the only batsman to reach double figures.

Campbell Thompson : The 22-year-old Thompson, who has played only one first-class match to date, had begun wreaking havoc the previous evening. He claimed the first five wickets of the second innings, while off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli took one wicket in between, adding to the six he had taken in the first innings.

After the match, Thompson said, “Sometimes luck is on your side. Today was one of those days. It’s a fantastic experience to get the chance to play against a Test team before the Test series. I learned a lot playing alongside experienced players like Kurtis Patterson and Corey Rocchiccioli.”

Thompson Eyes Next Challenge
Campbell Thompson : He added, “Bowling against Bangladesh’s top batters gave me valuable experience. My goal now is to bowl well at every level and take things one step at a time.” Last season, Thompson played for the Prime Minister’s XI against England. Subsequently, he made his debut for South Australia in both One-Day matches and the Sheffield Shield. In the Sheffield Shield, he bowled an impressive spell against Usman Khawaja, though his season was cut short by a hamstring injury.

Campbell Thompson : This defeat is certainly a cause for concern for Bangladesh. They now have only four days before the first Test against Australia, where they will have to face lethal fast bowlers like Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood.

Campbell Thompson : However, in the first innings, Bangladesh had scored 263 runs, thanks to a magnificent century by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who batted at number seven. With the ball, Hasan Mahmud claimed four wickets for 42 runs, but the batting lineup completely collapsed in the second innings, resulting in a crushing defeat for the team.
